Overwatch Contenders South America Cancelled

In a recent post on Reddit, esports product manager Dan McHugh revealed that Overwatch Contenders: South America has been cancelled. This decision was made by Activision Blizzard as they deemed that the region was not performing at the level they expected.

The competitive Overwatch scene in the region will still remain, they will just rely on third-party tournaments similar to the Pacific region.

Some have said that this is Blizzard’s fault as several teams have desolved and players retired over the years even after placing near or at the top of the Contenders seasons. Others have noted that the esports scene in general has blown up within the region with other competitive games such as CS:GO, Fortnite, and Valorant generating major success in the region.
