Notorious Switch Hacker Released From Prison

First reported by TorrentFreak, Gary “GaryOPA” Bowser has been released from federal prison thanks to good behavior.

Bowser served as the leader of the piracy group Team Xecuter who developed mod chips and jailbroke consoles with one of these items used to circumvent copy protective for the Nintendo Switch.

Gary agreed to pay $4.5 million to Nintendo in October 2021 as part of a plea bargain, but was ordered to pay an additional $10 million from a separate federal lawsuit in December of the same year.

According to U.S. attorney Nick Brown, Team Xecuter caused an estimated $65 million in lost revenue to various game companies around the world.
