EA Austin Hit With Layoffs, Rumored To be Related To FIFA Partnership

Kotaku have confirmed that the Electronic Arts’ offices in Austin have been hit with layoffs. The outlet obtained internal emails from within the studio noting that up to 100 employees within the Customer Service department have been let go.

Rumors started to speculate this was directly related to the recent news that the company ended their relationship with FIFA as many of those laid off were support the live operations of FIFA 22.

A spokesperson at EA told Kotaku:

“The changes in our customer support function are not tied to any one gaming franchise, nor are they connected to our EA SPORTS FC announcement last week. The customer support function support a wide range of player questions pertaining to our gaming titles, technology, including Origin or our EA Play subscription service.”

A source for Kotaku gave their own opinion that it could be related recent wage increases as “repeated complaints” at the Austin offices came shortly after many of the employees received a mere 10 cent hourly raise.
