Belgium Looking Into Loot Boxes

According to VTM News, Belgium’s Game Commission is looking into loot boxes. The Commission are looking into whether loot boxes are a form of gambling as when you get them, you don’t know the contents within them.

Director Peter Naessens said..

“If there is a game of chance, it’s not possible without a permit from the Gaming Commission.”

One of their big worry is the amount of kids who are playing games with loot boxes, despite the two games they are specifically looking into are Overwatch and Star Wars Battlefront II.

If the commission deem loot boxes as gambling. The companies who have them could face several thousands of euros in fines or have the games pulled from the country. Some believe they could follow China’s suit and allow loot boxes, but require the companies to publish drop percentages for items.
