Amazon Cancels Lord of the Rings MMO, Reportedly Due To “A Dispute With Tencent”

According to a new report by Bloomberg, Amazon have decided to cancel their Lord of the Rings MMO.

While something going wrong with an Amazon-developed title is not strange, the reason for this has sparked a discussion. Thanks to a statement by an Amazon spokesman, the reason is directly related to Chinese company Tencent.

An Amazon spokesman said:

“We have been unable to secure terms to proceed with this title at this time. We love the Lord of the Rings IP, and are disappointed that we won’t be bringing this game to customers.”

Talks had reportedly broken down after Tencent purchased Leyou which had been working alongsize Amazon Game Studios to develop the title.
