Toronto Esports Leaves Overwatch Scene, Players To Continue Under New Name

Toronto Esports Club have announced that Blizzard has told them they can no longer use the “Toronto” from their brand. Their reason was due to the Toronto Defiant purchasing “exclusive naming rights”. Due to this, the organization have said they were leaving the Overwatch scene effective immediately.

Chris Loranger, President of Gaming at The Kraft Group Life took to Twitter to say the following:

“I do not have the ability at the moment to address the recent or current decision out of and we were not part of the decision at all. That being said we retain ownership of all the player and staff contracts and ownership over the contenders slot.”

“We will continue to compete as a team, but obviously under a new brand. That is all I can say at the moment but will provide further details at a later date.”
