Xbox Live Indie Games Program Shutting Down

xbox360

The Indie Games section on Xbox Live has slowly been dwindling down these past couple of years. Part of this is due to Indie developers flocking to Steam and other digital means for distribution after having very bad experiences with Microsoft.

Now it seems that the company has decided that it will be shutting down the Indie Games service. Microsoft sent e-mails out to developers that they have begun “the sunsetting process” for the program and has asked anyone that is interested on releasing their game on Xbox 360 to signup before their official shutdown which is lated for late 2017. The publishers have been told to have their game ready to publish within 1 year before the store is closed down forever.

Players will still be able to download and play the games they’ve purchased in the past.
