In a new Rockstar Newswire post, Rockstar Games officially announced that the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is officially in development. The company stated:

With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.
While many have pointed to this meaning that Grand Theft Auto VI is in development, some have speculated this could mean a remaster of some kind. Many within the company have been asking for some of the older titles such as the Stories titles and Grand Theft Auto IV to be remade for some time.
