Some extremely sad news to report as video game pioneer Rebecca Heineman has passed away after a battle with cancer.
Heineman had been involved in the video game industry since 1979 as a writer for Electronic Games before getting hired by Avalon Hill after she admitted to reverse-engineering Atari 2600 code. This ultimately led to a career spanning four decades in the industry.
Over the years, Heineman worked on and ported several iconic titles such as Doom (3DO port), Neuromancer, Tempest 2000 (Mac port), and The Bard’s Tale.
Heineman had also been part of the advisory board of the National Video Game Museum in Frisco Texas and in 2017 was an inductee for the International Video Game Hall of Fame.
