In January 2021, GameStop stock prices surged from $17 to over $500 per share following a campaign started by users in the subreddit /r/WallStreetBets in an attempt to force hedge funds betting against GameStop in to potentially record-breaking losses. Now, thanks to an indie developer known only by the mononym Eltar, you can now play the market from the view of a hedge fund manager in Hedgie Simulator.

In Hedgie Simulator takes place in the offices of “Sipadel Finance,” where your character works as a fund manager with the goal of making profits by any means necessary. The game features traditional buying, selling, and options trading, as well as shadier options like paying off news stations to withhold news or share fake news.

We had an exclusive opportunity to ask Eltar about their inspiration for the game shortly after today’s launch:

I created this game acting on a dare, which was easy being a fan of the “Ape” movement from /r/WallStreetBets. I thought this would funny as ****. To be honest, the entire premise is a joke.Eltar

Hedige Simulator is available now on Steam for $1.99 USD.
