Back in August we reported that Nintendo were being accused by an unnamed employee of violating labor rights. Now Axios have published an interview with the employee who filed the lawsuit to the National Labor Relations Board.
This person is named Mackenzie Clifton and worked as a Quality Assurance tester for Nintendo says he was dismissed and later fired for mentioning unionization. Clifton said during a meeting he asked current Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser “What does NoA think about the unionization trend in QA in the games industry as of late?” This did not warrant a response from Bowser for the remainder of this meeting. Later on that day, Clifton was stopped by a supervisor from Aston Carter who told him his question for Bowser was a “downer question” and that all questions regarding the topic should be addressed to Aston Carter and not Nintendo.
A month after this event, Clifton was fired by the company with Nintendo claiming the termination was for disclosing confidential information.
Nintendo have denied the claim that unions were the reason for Clifton’s termination.
