YouTubers No Longer Making Money Until They Reach 10,000 Lifetime Views

YouTube have announced they are making changes to their partner program in an effort to combat bad actors. YouTubers will no longer be able to turn on monetization until their channel hits 10,000 views total. The belief of YouTube is that during this time they will be allowed to gather enough information on a channel to know if it’s legit or not.

Ariel Bardin, YouTube’s Vice President of Product Management, released the following statement..

“In a few weeks, we’ll also be adding a review process for new creators who apply to be in the YouTube Partner Program. After a creator hits 10k lifetime views on their channel, we’ll review their activity against our policies. If everything looks good, we’ll bring this channel into YPP and begin serving ads against their content. Together these new thresholds will help ensure revenue only flows to creators who are playing by the rules.”

This is also a plan to combat what some would consider “offensive” videos away from brands that are spending their money marketing on the platform. Bardin continued..

“This new threshold gives us enough information to determine the validity of a channel. It also allows us to confirm if a channel is following our community guidelines and advertiser policies.”
