Spore Prototype Build Surfaces

Some more great news for video game preservation as the folks over at Hidden Palace have archived a prototype build of Maxis’ Spore

The build is dated February 19, 2008 and features debugging tools as well as content leftover from promotional material and early builds of Spore dating far back as GDC 2005.

Spore was one of the most hyped and infamous video games of the 2000s as it was incredibly hyped prior to launch. While the game received favorable reviews by critics, the general public with many feeling it was shallow with the amount of content as well as the implementation of SecuROM. The latter resulted in class-action lawsuit against Maxis and parent company Electronic Arts.
