According to stats on Metacritic, Sonic Mania has received great reviews with a critic score of 86 and a user rating score of 9.1. This makes it the highest-rated Sonic game in 15 years.
For comparison, the Sonic game that comes closest to this rating in recent memory is Sonic Advance which released in 2002 and received a 87 rating by critics. Even recent Sonic games such as Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors only received aggregated scores of 77% and 78%.
