Nintendo Lobbying Against A.I. In Japan

According to a sense deleted tweet by Japanese congressman Satoshi Asano a number of major companies across Japan have taken legal action against various AI companies. One company Asano mentions directly who seems to be lobbying against the use is Nintendo.

Asano stated:

Nintendo avoids using generative AI to protect its IP and is lobbying the government. As stated in Representative Tamaki’s post, the party will continue to promote the ethical use of generative AI while also considering strengthening regulations. We will consider effective measures, taking into consideration the opinions of creators we have received this time. We look forward to your continued feedback.

This comes off the heels of the launch of Sora 2 by OpenAI has led many to make very realistic videos using Nintendo IPs such as Pikachu and Mario.

Other companies that are actively suing AI companies include Getty Images, New York Times, and Yomiuri Shimbun.
