PC Shipments Drop 12.6%

According to a new report from research group Gartner, the PC market saw what they described as the “sharpest decline in 9 years” with total shipments of PC units decreasing by 12.6% during Q2 2022.

Researcher Mikako Kitagawa noted several various factors including the Ukraine invasion, steep demand of Chromebooks, inflation, and supply chain issues for processors. Kitagawa stated:

“Supply chain disruptions also continued, but the major cause of PC delivery delays changed from component shortages to logistics disruptions. Enterprise buyers continued to experience longer PC delivery times than usual, but the lead times began to improve by the end of the second quarter, partially because key cities in China reopened in the middle of the quarter.”

The only computer developers to see an increase compared to this time last year was Apple whom saw sales increase 9.3%. The largest drop belonged to HP who saw sales plummet by 27.5%.
